Jordanian Authorities Intercept Smuggled Hormones at Border

Amman:The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), in collaboration with the Jordan Customs Department, successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle hormones into the country through the Jaber Border Crossing. The hormones, seized on Friday, were in various pharmaceutical forms and were stopped before entering the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, the JFDA's press statement revealed that the confiscated items included 70 hormone injections and over 100 hormone tablets. These substances are to be destroyed following established procedures, and legal actions are underway to refer those involved to the Public Prosecutor.

The JFDA emphasized that this seizure is part of its ongoing efforts to monitor and enforce regulations, highlighting that in recent weeks, it has managed multiple attempts to smuggle 14 different types of hormones in various quantities and forms into the country.

These hormones are banned from circulation, unregistered, and not legally licensed, with misuse primarily occurring in bodybuilding. The JFDA warned of significant health risks, including cardiovascular diseases, hormonal disorders, and fertility issues, associated with these substances.

The administration urged the public to ensure that any pharmaceutical products they use are approved by the JFDA to safeguard their health. It also encouraged citizens to report observations, inquiries, or complaints through its official complaints platform on WhatsApp at 0795632000 or via its hotline at 117114.
