Amman:European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas emphasized the critical nature of the Jordan-EU partnership, highlighting ongoing support for Jordan in areas such as economic stability, security, and political reforms.
According to Jordan News Agency, Chatzisavas addressed journalists about the wide-ranging cooperation between Jordan and the EU, stressing Jordan's significance as a regional partner. He mentioned the recent visit by European Parliament members, which aimed to understand Jordan's challenges and the political modernization process.
The ambassador also discussed the upcoming Jordan-EU Investment Conference, scheduled for November at the Dead Sea. The conference will explore investment opportunities in sectors like renewable energy and digital economy, with around 200 CEOs, mainly from European companies, expected to attend. The EU is preparing a support package for the conference, including grants and loans, to boost investment in Jordan.
Chatzisavas highlighted Jordan's strategic location as an asset for regional connectivity, with the EU working on trade corridors such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. This enhanced connectivity could create additional opportunities for Jordan in trade and investment.
He mentioned a forthcoming financial and investment package of 3 billion pounds for Jordan from the EU, aimed at addressing economic challenges and supporting reforms. European assistance also includes development programs and support for Syrian refugees.
In tourism, a 10 million pound program supports site development and community involvement, with efforts to market Jordan as a standalone tourist destination. The EU is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and UNDP to enhance tourism products and attract visitors.
Regarding regional stability, Chatzisavas noted that the EU considers regional tensions and their impact on Jordan's security and economy. He reiterated the EU's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy to address regional issues, underscoring the importance of Jordan's stability to the EU. The upcoming Jordan-EU Association Council meeting will further review and develop the bilateral partnership.
