Amman: Jordan Customs Department (JCD) announced on Wednesday that it will suspend cargo traffic to the Jaber border crossing during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, at the request of the Syrian side. The department clarified that passenger flow through the designated terminal will continue “as usual without any changes.”
According to Jordan News Agency, the department indicated that cargo movement from other border points for the Jaber crossing will be halted to prevent truck congestion. In a statement Wednesday, JCD Director General, Maj.Gen. Ahmed Akalik, stated that all “necessary” measures have been taken to manage the movement of passengers and cargo during the holiday period.
Akalik mentioned that the plan will be executed by implementing the “necessary” measures to facilitate passenger flow. He emphasized that customs centers have been reinforced with “qualified” personnel to ensure the smooth passage of passengers and goods.
Akalik highlighted that this approach is designed to align with traffic intensity and is part of an emergency plan prepared for the occasion. The plan aims to balance facilitation and compliance. He urged directors of border crossings to take all necessary steps to ensure seamless workflow, coordinating with relevant agencies that operate round the clock to assist visitors and expatriates in completing their transactions “smoothly and adequately.”
Akalik committed to ongoing efforts to serve the Kingdom and its citizens, noting that this initiative is in coordination with official and security agencies at the border centers. He added that the process seeks to overcome obstacles and simplify customs procedures at all stages, aligning with the government’s vision to ease transactions for citizens and visitors.
