Jordan ‘sorry’ truce in Yemen not extended

The Foreign Ministry Sunday said it is “sorry” the truce in Yemen would not be extended further its expiration date in October.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Ambassador Haitham Abu Al Foul, said that the truce, which entered into force on April 2, 2022, and was extended twice, alleviated the suffering of the Yemeni people and contributed to securing humanitarian aid for the afflicted.

Abu Al Foul said that Jordan supports efforts to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC’s) initiative, the outcomes of the comprehensive Yemeni national dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216 that seeks to end the crisis in Yemen and guarantee Yemen’s unity, stability and safety.

He praised the position of the Yemeni government and its commitment to the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the UN to Yemen to extend the humanitarian truce, noting that Jordan continues to facilitate the conduct of flights between Sanaa and Amman.

Abu Al Foul added that Jordan lauds the “positive and constructive positions” of Saudi Arabia and the UAE and their support for extending the truce in Yemen.
