Taani: Jordan: Jordan is leading the way in digital energy in the Middle East, establishing itself as a pioneer in energy and digital transformation, said Secretary-General of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) Mohammed Taani.
According to Jordan News Agency, Taani made this remark in a strategic paper on digital energy presented at the recent World Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi. The event was attended by decision-makers, experts, and international institutions focused on energy and sustainability, as stated by AREC.
Taani highlighted that Jordan has positioned itself as a leader in energy and digital transformation, with renewable energy contributing more than 30 percent of the country's total electricity demand, equivalent to about 2.8 gigawatts.
The kingdom has also introduced modern electricity and energy storage regulations and built the largest infrastructure for electric vehicle charging and energy storage in the Middle East. This development is backed by incentives and tax exemptions aimed at encouraging energy transition, technology adoption, and environmental protection.
Taani noted that Jordan ranks among the best in the region for managing digital energy as a recognized right for every citizen and resident. This is part of an integrated model where state institutions treat digital energy as a basic right within the framework of sustainable development.
Global forecasts indicate that over 350 million electric vehicles will be produced by 2035, and global energy demand is expected to rise by over 150 percent from current levels. Renewable energy is projected to become the main global energy source in the near future, Taani mentioned.
In his paper, Taani also addressed global energy access challenges, noting that over 1.5 billion people worldwide still lack electricity access, while more than 3.5 billion are without internet services. He emphasized that digital energy is a critical element for sustainable development and social equity.
AREC announced the launch of its initiative "Digital Energy as a Basic Human Right," which aims to establish fair access to energy and technology as essential components of comprehensive and sustainable development.
