Aqaba: The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has completed maintenance and rehabilitation works on a 14-kilometer stretch of the Desert Highway, running from Uheeda toward Aqaba via Al Mraigha and ending at Ras Al-Naqab. The project cost a total of JD3.25 million.
According to Jordan News Agency, the project is part of ongoing and upcoming efforts to upgrade the strategic Desert Highway. Preparations are underway for a new rehabilitation phase covering the 12.5-kilometer section between Humeima and Al Quweira.
The completed works included milling the old asphalt layer, sealing cracks, fixing road depressions, and repaving with two new asphalt layers totaling 13 cm in thickness. The project also involved road safety enhancements, such as lane markings, directional arrows, and reflective road studs all executed in line with international standards.
The ministry emphasized that the Desert Highway remains a top infrastructure priority due to its vital role connecting the port city of Aqaba with the capital, Amman, and other governorates across the kingdom.
