Jordan and Syria Strengthen Ties Ahead of Critical Tripartite Talks on Syrian Crisis

Amman: Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani in Amman, ahead of a crucial Jordanian-Syrian-US tripartite meeting focused on the situation in Syria.

According to Jordan News Agency, the two ministers discussed enhancing cooperation across various sectors, following directives from the leaderships of both countries. Their discussions included efforts to uphold the ceasefire in Syria’s southern Sweida Governorate and explore peaceful resolutions to the ongoing unrest.

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s longstanding support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Amman’s backing of Damascus’ reconstruction efforts, stressing the importance of preserving the rights and safety of all Syrians to ensure the country’s long-term stability and security. “Jordan remains committed to a stable, sovereign, and unified Syria,” Safadi stated, cautioning against all forms of foreign interference and highlighting Syria’s security as a cornerstone of regional stability.

The discussions also addressed the continued Israeli airstrikes and incursions into Syrian territory. Both ministers condemned these actions as violations of international law and threats to regional security, emphasizing their contravention of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.

Shaibani expressed appreciation for Jordan’s ongoing support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts and its principled stance on preserving the country’s sovereignty and stability.
