Jordan and Spain Launch Al Lajoun Water Rehabilitation Project in Karak

Karak: The Secretary-General of the Water Authority of Jordan, Sufian Bataineh, alongside Spanish Ambassador to Jordan, Miguel de Lucas, officially inaugurated the Al Lajoun Wells Rehabilitation Project, aiming to enhance the water supply and efficiency in the Karak Governorate.

According to Jordan News Agency, the project is a collaborative effort funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) with an investment of JD1.214 million. The initiative seeks to align with Jordan’s national goals to reduce water loss, in line with the Water Sector Strategic Plan 2023-2040. The project involved the rehabilitation of seven wells in the Al Lajoun area, which included significant upgrades such as the replacement of pumps, cables, and electrical panels.

Additional enhancements were carried out at the Al Lajoun pumping station, where several pumps and the main control panel were replaced, along with valves and the old turbidity meter. Infrastructure improvements included reinforcing water barriers, maintaining the chlorine room, and installing approximately 5.5 km of ductile iron pipes of various diameters to improve the interconnection of wells and the supply system to the station.

Spanish Ambassador Miguel de Lucas reiterated Spain’s commitment to supporting Jordan with technical and engineering expertise to improve water services. He highlighted the importance of reducing water loss and upgrading infrastructure to bolster water security in the country.

Local community representative Fadi Amro expressed that the project is expected to greatly enhance water availability in Karak, benefiting multiple sectors and increasing the supply of potable water to residents.
