Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, and Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, Haneen Sayed, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to foster cooperation and exchange expertise in social development.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting, attended by Charg© d’Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy in Amman, George Fadel, and various ministry officials, emphasized the significance of Jordanian-Lebanese relations. The MoU is aimed at enhancing joint Arab cooperation to support vulnerable groups benefiting from social services.
Bani Mustafa highlighted Jordan’s National Social Protection Strategy (2025-2033), launched under Royal patronage last May. The strategy, backed by the government of Dr. Jaafar Hassan, seeks to ensure comprehensive and sustainable social protection for targeted groups. The MoU outlines the implementation of joint programs for social groups such as persons with disabilities, orphaned children, people without family support, the elderly, and juveniles in care homes, alongside exchanging expertise in social and institutional development.
Bani Mustafa underscored the importance of social protection as a foundation for justice and an economic catalyst, referencing the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha this November as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in this field.
Sayed expressed that the cooperation is aimed at solidifying relations with Jordan and offers a valuable opportunity to share expertise in social protection. She detailed Lebanon’s social protection frameworks, which encompass safety nets, social services, and economic integration for vulnerable groups. Sayed emphasized that this collaboration would enhance the quality of services provided to social groups.
