Amman: Jordan’s Minister of State for Public Sector Development, Dr. Khair Abu Sa’ilik, emphasized the country’s ongoing modernization efforts aimed at transforming public administration, with a focus on citizen-centered policies and services. Addressing a national conference titled “Towards a Strategic Partnership with Civil Society in Developing Public Administration in Jordan (2026-2029),” the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to these reforms with “greater resolve.”
According to Jordan News Agency, the event is part of the “Integrity: European Union Support for Social Accountability and Empowering Civil Society to Achieve Good Governance” project, funded by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). It is being implemented by the Hayat Center – RASED for Civil Society Development and Rasheed Transparency International – Jordan.
During his remarks, Abu Sa’ilik noted that the concept of public service has evolved in response to global transformations and increasing citizen demands. He underscored that government effectiveness is now gauged by its ability to deliver smart and efficient services that citizens can directly experience.
The modernization roadmap, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, is described as a comprehensive national project that aligns with political and economic modernization efforts. The minister stated that this roadmap is being executed through strategic partnerships across state institutions, fostering an operational framework with clear qualitative steps.
Abu Sa’ilik highlighted the need for a shift in public service culture, emphasizing the importance of administrative workers’ training and skill development, alongside ethical and professional value instillation. He stated that this cultural shift is crucial for meaningful administrative reforms that rebuild trust and competence in public services, impacting citizens’ lives positively.
The minister affirmed that Jordan’s modernization endeavors are progressing steadfastly, undeterred by geopolitical challenges. He stressed the pivotal role of civil society in overcoming public sector hurdles and achieving reform objectives.
Spanish Ambassador Miguel de Lucas and European Union Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas both praised the strides made in Jordan’s administrative modernization. They emphasized the essential role of civil society in demonstrating and amplifying these achievements.
The conference facilitated dialogues among officials, economists, public sector modernization program directors, and civil society organizations, contributing to discussions on furthering Jordan’s public sector reforms.
