JFDA warns of abusing painkillers

The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) warned against abusing painkillers or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) without medical consultation.

In a statement on Thursday, Director General of the JFDA Nizar Muhaidat said that abusing painkillers may increase the risk of acute kidney failure or liver failure, heart attacks and strokes, warning against practices such as taking multiple brand names for the same generic drug at the same or exceeding the recommended dose limit.

He stressed that painkillers and NSAIDs should not be the first choices for relieving pain, explaining that it is possible to resort to other medications or pain-relieving practices depending on the type of pain.
