JFDA bans “Golden Pearl” for mercury content

The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has scrapped the retail license of the cosmetic “Golden Pearl” cream, due to the high level of mercury it contains.

In a statement on Sunday, Director General of the JFDA Nizar Mheidat said that the Administration; along with the Jordan Cosmetic Association and Jordan Pharmacists Association (JPA), are currently working to withdraw all products from local markets.

These procedures, he noted, came under a monitoring program specialized in detecting mercury levels in skin-lightening creams to ensure their safety.

The laboratory analysis results of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) showed that Golden Pearl’s mercury levels exceed the safety limits, jeopardizing the health of its users.

Mheidat called on citizens to contact the JFDA in case of any questions or complaints through the free hotline: 117114, the e-mail: info@jfda.jo or by WhatsApp: 0795632000.
