Amman: The Jerash Governorate and the Yarmouk Water Company convened on Sunday to discuss strategies for upgrading water and sanitation services, preparing the infrastructure to handle increasing demand spurred by tourism and developmental growth.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jerash Governor Malek Khraisat emphasized the necessity of ongoing collaboration between the governorate and Yarmouk Water Company. He assured that the governorate would back the company's initiatives to enhance services, focusing on ensuring citizens' access to water as per approved distribution schedules. Khraisat warned that any violations of water networks, such as meter tampering or illegal connections, would face strict legal actions to maintain fair distribution and service quality.
Yarmouk Water Company Chairperson Osama Muhaisen pointed out the critical need for developing water infrastructure, boosting operational efficiency, and tackling sector challenges to guarantee sustainable water supplies. He highlighted that the flourishing tourism sector, including preparations for the forthcoming Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, alongside rising development investments, necessitates ongoing improvements in water and sanitation services to satisfy the growing demand.
Muhaisen further explained that the company is executing a comprehensive development program in partnership with the French company Veolia. This initiative aims at elevating administrative and operational efficiency, enhancing institutional performance, and adopting international best practices in water and sanitation management.
General Manager Ghislain Juvanon shared that since the onset of the management contract, the company has been evaluating operational challenges and crafting solutions, which have already led to improved performance. He mentioned that the company is supervising projects financed by international institutions, focusing on reducing water losses, accelerating infrastructure development, and reinforcing financial sustainability in alignment with the management contract's goals.
Director of the Jerash Water Department Mohammad Atoum noted that ongoing operational plans are being implemented to boost water supply efficiency throughout the governorate. This includes reinforcing maintenance teams, expanding field monitoring, and refining water distribution management. Atoum added that the department is working in coordination with Yarmouk Water Company on network rehabilitation and infrastructure enhancement projects to improve service quality and address citizens' needs.
