JCDC Conducts Study to Boost Public Health Performance in Eastern Mediterranean

Amman: The Jordanian National Centre for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases Control (JCDC) has conducted a study themed "Strengthening National Public Health Institutes for resilient health systems: evidence to inform policy and decision makers in the Eastern Mediterranean region". This initiative is part of JCDC's ongoing efforts to perform strategic-level research and support evidence-based decision-making.

According to Jordan News Agency, the study was prepared by a research team that gathered both global and Eastern Mediterranean Region-specific evidence to analyze the current state and performance of National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs). It provides a detailed map of operational challenges and proposes actionable policy options in key areas such as governance, legislation, and mandate definition.

The study also addresses issues related to funding, capacity building and workforce development, monitoring and data management systems, and multi-sectoral coordination, all considered within the region's broader political and social contexts. The core message emphasizes that strengthening NPHIs in the Eastern Mediterranean Region requires a comprehensive policy approach, with strong legislation to clearly define roles and responsibilities alongside national sustainable funding.

Furthermore, the study advocates for competency-based frameworks for human resource development and institutionalizing communication about risks and community engagement. This approach supports a transition to proactive responses to health threats within the One Health framework.
