Irish minister for children visits Zaatari camp

The Irish Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (CECIY), Roderic O’Gorman, on Sunday visited the Zaatari Camp for Syrian refugees and observed the offered services.

The meeting, attended by Ireland’s Ambassador to Jordan Vincent O’Neill and the accompanying delegation, included a briefing about the camp’s green projects such as the solar power, waste management and recycling projects provided for refugee communities.

On his two-day visit to Jordan, the minister also visited the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Refugee Registration Centre in Amman and received an overview on the center’s work. He also met with IRRP officials and a refugee family to be resettled in Ireland.

Earlier today, O’Gorman separately met with Minister of Social Development Ayman Al Mufleh, and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh, and discussed areas of bilateral cooperation.

He later launched the “Green Embassy Initiative” at the Irish Chancery, and planted a tree to commemorate the occasion.
