Iraq announces partial results of legislative elections

Iraq’s Independent Election Commission Monday announced the partial results of parliamentary elections, which showed a turnout of 41 per cent.

Commission head Jalil Adnan told a press conference that it announced the results in 10 provinces, including Diyala, Diwaniyeh, Muthanna, Maysan, Wasit, Dhuk, Salah al-Din, Karbala, Najaf and Irbil.

He said the results were based on data received from these regions, adding that provinces where trouble was reported during the polls will be referred to tomorrow morning to the National Office of the Commission for scrutiny before announcing their results.

He said 41 per cent of the 25-million electorate, about 10 million voters, cast ballots in yesterday’s polls to choose 329 representatives to the new parliament.
