Industry Minister Unveils Plan to Ensure Basic Goods Supply and Price Stability

Amman: Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah announced that the ministry has developed a comprehensive plan to mitigate the effects of regional tensions on the supply chain, ensuring the availability of essential goods and maintaining stable prices. This initiative aims to safeguard the Kingdom’s access to basic commodities amidst ongoing challenges.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry is collaborating with the private sector to enhance strategic reserves of essential goods. The partnership has shown a commendable level of responsibility in supporting and replenishing the Kingdom’s reserves. This cooperative effort is crucial to maintaining the availability of staple goods across the nation.

The ministry is conducting thorough and frequent monitoring throughout the Kingdom to ensure the availability of staple goods and to prevent any attempts at price manipulation or hoarding. The minister emphasized that the law will be strictly enforced against any violations, ensuring a fair marketplace for consumers.

Qudah highlighted that the ministry is prepared to intervene directly to regulate prices if there are any unwarranted discrepancies between production or import costs and retail prices, especially for essential food items. By implementing price ceilings, the ministry aims to ensure fairness and maintain market stability.

Additionally, Qudah mentioned government support for civil and military consumer corporations, which play a vital role in securing basic food commodities at reasonable prices. He reassured the public that the food supply situation in the Kingdom is stable, with a consistent flow of imports through land borders and the Port of Aqaba.

Current reserves of key commodities are sufficient, with wheat reserves projected to last over ten months, barley for about eight months, and other staples like sugar, rice, oils, and legumes for up to three months. This strategic management ensures that the Kingdom is well-prepared to meet its food supply needs in the coming months.
