Amman: Demand for foodstuffs in the local market remains "stable and normal" with prices holding steady despite regional tensions, as confirmed by importers and workers in the food industry on Wednesday. Stocks of goods are secure, and supply chains are operating smoothly, supported by numerous offers on food items and competition among shopping centers and malls.
According to Jordan News Agency, major shopping centers have launched various offers on staple food items, including rice, fresh poultry, chilled red meat, sugar, vegetable oils, and fish. Hamza Halaiqa, CEO of a catering firm, stated that demand for food and basic commodities in the local market is normal, with goods readily available and prices steady. He noted that the offers in malls are slightly lower than during peak seasons, adding that supply chains and imports continue to bolster the Kingdom's strategic reserves of various food and essential commodities.
Raed Takrouri, CEO of a trading firm, highlighted that the Kingdom's food reserves, particularly vegetable oils, are "secure," with all varieties available and normal demand at present, following a period of strong demand in the local market. He mentioned that while supply chains are operational, there are delays due to regional developments and rising costs of shipping, insurance, and transport globally from countries from which most vegetable oils are imported.
Wael Shakirat, CEO of a catering and distribution company, reported that it is "business as usual," except for some corporation markets that experienced a more robust shopping period. However, special offers remain available, and prices are stable. Nabil Farid, manager of an Amman mall, observed "moderate" market activity this week, following substantial buying and bargain hunting last week due to a weather low-pressure system. He assured that there are plenty of offers at shopping centers, with competition benefiting citizens and consumers. Food and goods of all varieties are available with no shortages, providing multiple item options.
