Amman: Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Mousa Maaytah, stated that the political modernization project represents the Jordanian state's strategic choice to enhance political and party life, empower women and youth, and strengthen democratic participation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Maaytah made these remarks during an interview on Al Mamlaka TV, coinciding with the 80th Independence Day of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He emphasized the vital role of political parties in sustaining political activity, noting that parliament is the primary platform for political engagement. A statement issued by the commission on Monday highlighted his views.
Maaytah stressed the importance of promoting a political party culture across society, particularly among young people, who he described as the primary drivers of change. He pointed out that youth have a crucial role in advancing political party work by presenting constructive ideas, especially within public and private universities.
"Youth are the most capable of adopting positive ideas and implementing them to build the future they aspire to," Maaytah expressed.
He also highlighted that developing political life is a shared responsibility among all state institutions, noting that the Independent Election Commission has initiated numerous programs to enhance political participation in collaboration with various partners.
Maaytah announced that the commission, in partnership with The University of Jordan, plans to introduce a Higher Diploma Program in Political Party Management and Organization next year. This program will be accessible to professionals in politics and media, as well as other interested participants, aiming to build citizens' capacities and support broader participation in public life and decision-making.
