Istanbul: First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mustafa Khasawneh, emphasized the importance of leveraging Jordan’s pro-Palestinian stance in international forums and intensifying pressure to counter settlement expansion and halt violations committed by Israeli forces against Palestinian people in the West Bank, Gaza, and occupied Jerusalem.
According to Jordan News Agency, Khasawneh made these remarks in Istanbul as head of a parliamentary delegation visiting the “League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine.” He reiterated Jordan’s unequivocal rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or impose solutions that do not align with the Palestinian people’s free will. He reaffirmed their right to self-determination, as guaranteed by international legitimacy and international law.
The delegation included MP Mohammad Salameh Al-Ghweiri, head of the parliamentary administrative committee; MP Suleiman Al-Saud, head of the Palestine Committee; as well as MPs Yousef Al-Rawadieh, Mohammad Al-Mahameed, Ahmad Ulaimat, Ibrahim Sarayrah, Mousa Wahsh, and Raed Qatamin. The league Secretary-General Mohammad Al-Bal’awi was also present.
Khasawneh stressed that the visit comes at a critical time amid escalating tensions in Palestine. He underscored that the Jordanian Parliament’s position aligns with and reinforces the official stance led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
He highlighted Jordan’s adherence to the three “No’s” outlined by the King: no to displacement, no to resettlement, and no to an alternative homeland, emphasizing that these are national principles that have gained broad Arab and international support.
The discussions also covered Israel’s stance on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the need to counter efforts aimed at dismantling the agency. Additionally, the delegation reaffirmed the importance of the Hashimite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, rejecting any temporal or spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
For his part, MP Al-Saud noted that both the Jordanian Parliament and the league share a common goal of strengthening Arab and international support for Palestine. He called for mobilizing global public opinion against Israeli violations and displacement plans in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem.
Al-Saud added that both sides agreed on the need to activate the role of Arab and Islamic parliaments in backing international resolutions on Palestine and to push for the establishment of permanent Palestine committees within Arab legislatures, similar to Jordan’s parliamentary Palestine committee.
He affirmed that Jordanians stand united behind King Abdullah’s firm stance in safeguarding national interests and rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. He urged Arab and Islamic parliaments to engage with international legislatures to hold Israeli leaders accountable before international justice.
Sheikh Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, head of the league, commended the Jordanian Parliament’s pivotal role in supporting Palestine. He noted that Jordan maintains the closest political, popular, and parliamentary ties to Palestine.
Al-Ahmar praised King Abdullah’s steadfast positions in resisting international pressure aimed at legitimizing the occupation and dismantling the Palestinian cause. He highlighted Jordanian MPs’ active participation in the league since its inception and lauded the establishment of a permanent Palestine committee in Jordan’s Parliament as a model for Arab and Islamic legislative bodies.
The visiting MPs reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering position, crediting King Abdullah’s leadership for reshaping global perspectives on the Palestinian issue and exposing Israeli violations. They stressed the need for joint efforts to restore Palestinian rights and establish an independent state on Palestinian soil.
