House association, Mexican envoy discuss joint cooperation prospects

Head of the Jordanian Parliamentary Friendship Association with North American Countries, MP Khair Abu Sa’ilik, stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem’s Al-Quds Al-Sharif, reviewing His Majesty King Abdullah II’s “unwavering” stances aimed to restoring momentum to the Palestinian cause.

Speaking at a meeting on Wednesday, with the Mexican ambassador to Jordan, Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez, Abu Sa’ilik discussed ways to advance Jordanian-Mexican relations in the economic, political, cultural and tourism fields , in addition to issues of common interest and the region’s latest developments.

Abu Sa’ilik said Jordan’s political reform process receives the King’s patronage, with the aim of developing the country’s political system to reach a parliamentary and party life “that suits Jordanians and Jordan’s democratic path.”

In this regard, the MP also stressed the importance of defining the reforms’ end goal and clarifying the citizens’ demands to reach a Parliament based on “strong” programmatic parties.

Noting Jordan’s economic conditions due to humanitarian refugee waves, he said regional developments and crises led to pressure on Jordan’s resources, infrastructure, health and educational services.

The international community is failing in its duty towards Jordan, as the volume of aid has not lived up to what is required to continue its humanitarian role, the lawmaker said.

Jordan, he noted, enjoys an “attractive” investment environment due to its geographical location and its security stability, , calling for reviewing formulation of investment laws.

Abu Sa’ilik urged Mexican businesspeople to invest in Jordan’s “positive” atmosphere, stressing the Parliament’s readiness to arrange joint discussions for the two countries’ business communities and to increase the volume of trade exchange and sign joint tree trade agreement.

Hernandez, for his part, said Jordan is a “safe and stable” country, which is is due to the King’s wisdom and leadership, deeming the Kingdom the “gateway to the Middle East and the nexus for the region’s markets.

On the Palestinian cause, Hernandez said his country supports the two-state solution and living in peace side by side, lauding the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Stressing the need to increase joint cooperation in the tourism, academic, technical and scientific exchange fields, he also called for strengthening collaboration between Jordanian and Mexican universities, which would include programs to teach Spanish in Jordan and Arabic in Mexico.
