Health officials discuss cystic fibrosis treatment, management

Minister of Health Firas Hawari and top ministry officials have discussed the steps taken to treat and manage cystic fibrosis in the Kingdom, according to a ministry statement released Saturday.

The ministry said that the steps included setting up a national registry for cystic fibrosis patients, and establishing specialized clinics to treat and manage this disease and its complications.

The ministry indicated that these steps will be initially implemented in the Prince Hamza Hospital and Princess Rahma Hospital, in order to diagnose, treat and follow up these cases.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections.
