Health Ministry urges elderly to get seasonal flu shot

Assistant Secretary-General for Primary Healthcare at the Ministry of Health Dr. Ghazi Sharkas on Tuesday called on elderly and people with chronic diseases to get the seasonal flu vaccine.

Sharkas said in a statement that the flu vaccine does not conflict with the COVID shots, but it is better to leave a period of at least two weeks to a month between them.

With the onset of winter, he indicated, the influenza infections are expected to increase, and that its coincidence with the spread of the coronavirus, urging people to receive the annual vaccine as a special protection for high-risk groups.

The pandemic period has witnessed a clear decrease in the number of seasonal flue infections, thanks to public commitment to wearing masks and using sanitizers, he added
