Haina lauds King’s stance on Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s sanctities

Amman, Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Khaldoun Haina, said His Majesty King Abdullah II sent “strong, clear” messages to the new Israeli right-wing government, which is soon led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Haina referred to His Majesty’s rejection to tamper with Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian sanctities in the city of Jerusalem, as a Hashemite religious, Islamic, Arab and human heritage.

Haina, in a press statement on Thursday, noted His Majesty is aware of the challenges facing Jordan in the next phase, primarily related to Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s sanctities.

His Majesty is also concerned about the Christian presence in the Middle East, which requires concerted efforts to work to protect their communities, he said.

In this regard, he said Israeli-Palestinian conflict begun to affect Christians over the past years, as their communities began to face pressures, and therefore their numbers are decreasing, which prompted His Majesty to sound alarms.

The MP referred to His Majesty’s statement that Jordan is proud of receiving Christ in the Baptism Site at Jordan River, referring to the Kingdom’s long history in hosting refugee waves.

Lauding His Majesty’s insight, wisdom to warn of future challenges, at this stage, he noted hardline plans, led by Israeli leaders, could emerge as their new government prepares to take over.
