Amman:German Jordanian University (GJU) has made significant progress in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, moving up 42 places to reach 403rd worldwide, compared to 445th last year.
According to Jordan News Agency, the GJU also achieved a ranking of 231st in Asia. The GreenMetric rankings evaluate sustainability among 2,016 universities and educational institutions from 110 countries, focusing on efforts to create sustainable campuses and incorporate sustainability into education, research, and institutional practices.
Since first participating in the rankings in 2023, GJU has improved its position from 1,011th that year to 572nd in 2024, 445th in 2025, and now 403rd in 2026. This marks a total rise of 608 places over four years, with an increase of 3,885 points in its total score.
GJU President Ala'aldeen Halhouli commented on the university's achievement, stating that the advancement reflects their commitment to integrating sustainability across all areas of operation. The UI GreenMetric uses six categories for assessment infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education and research, providing a comprehensive evaluation of campus sustainability.
