GAM Declares Medium-Alert State for Weather Preparedness

Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has announced a medium-alert state, effective from Thursday morning, and will activate a light-alert state tonight, in response to the anticipated weather conditions according to meteorological reports.

According to Jordan News Agency, GAM spokesperson Nasser Rahamneh confirmed on Wednesday that the municipality’s teams are fully prepared to respond to any reports received by the emergency operations room in Tela’ Al-Ali. He urged citizens to report any observations to the unified call center at 102 or 117180.

The municipality also advised the public to exercise caution by staying away from valleys and low-lying areas, avoiding connecting rooftop drains to sewage systems to prevent road flooding, and refraining from littering, as it could clog rainwater drainage systems.

Additionally, GAM stressed the importance of checking sump pumps in basements and commercial stores below street level and urged merchants to take preventive measures when storing goods in warehouses and basement floors.

Contractors and construction project owners were also advised to secure building materials to prevent them from being washed away and causing blockages in rainwater drainage systems.
