Foreign Ministry summons Chargé d’Affairs of Israeli embassy, 1st, final add

Bataineh called on the Chargé d’Affairs to convey a message to the Israeli authorities that they must adhere to their obligations as the occupying power in East Jerusalem under international law and stop violations and attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalemites.

He also called on stopping attempts to displace residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from their homes that they own, as they are treated as protected population according to international law and international humanitarian law, and therefore the Israeli authorities have no right to forcibly displace them from their homes, and their displacement constitute a violation of international law.

Bataineh underscored the invalidity of Israeli court decisions on occupied East Jerusalem based on international humanitarian law and called on the Israeli authorities to respect the provisions of international law regarding this case, and to respect the right of the people to their homes, where they inhabited after signing agreements between the Jordanian government and heads of the neighborhood’s families in 1956, which is an ongoing and valid right, in light of the existence of the occupation authority.

He also called on respecting the status of properties of the neighborhood’s families and their right to them and not to violate them, emphasizing that rights of the families to these properties still exist.
