Amman: A joint communiqu© was released at the conclusion of the fifth Jordan-Cyprus-Greece Trilateral Summit held in Amman between His Majesty King Abdullah II, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, and Greece Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to Jordan News Agency, the summit convened to review the course of the trilateral partnership and assess progress since the last summit in Nicosia in November 2024. The leaders acknowledged the evolving international and regional landscape's challenges and emphasized the need to enhance cooperation to address political, economic, and security issues effectively.
The communiqu© expressed satisfaction with the progress in trilateral cooperation and a commitment to advancing institutional frameworks, such as the Permanent Secretariat in Nicosia. The leaders highlighted the importance of collaboration in trade, energy, investment, and culture, along with strategic priorities like supply chain resilience, trade route security, and developing transport infrastructure. The summit also stressed the importance of addressing food and water security through expertise exchange and innovative solutions.
The joint declaration reaffirmed the commitment to international law principles, including respect for sovereignty and peaceful dispute resolution. The leaders expressed deep concern over Middle East escalations and the need for international efforts to promote peace and stability. The communiqu© also addressed the necessity of a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, condemning illegal Israeli measures in the occupied territories.
The summit called for the implementation of US President Donald Trump's comprehensive plan for Gaza and supported UNRWA's role in assisting Palestinian refugees. The leaders emphasized Syria's security and stability, supporting Syrian Government efforts for reconstruction. They also affirmed the importance of supporting Syrian refugees and host countries, acknowledging Jordan's role in hosting refugees.
The communiqu© commended Cyprus for its EU Council Presidency and its pivotal role in addressing regional and international challenges. The leaders welcomed the Pact for the Mediterranean and the inauguration of the Cyprus Regional Aerial Firefighting Station, underscoring its significance in disaster response.
Finally, the joint statement highlighted the importance of resolving the Cyprus issue in accordance with international law and UN resolutions, supporting ongoing UN-facilitated negotiations for a peaceful solution. The summit concluded by reaffirming the trilateral cooperation mechanism as a dynamic framework for building a long-term strategic partnership in the Eastern Mediterranean.
