Fayez, US House Foreign Affairs Committee Member Discuss Jordan-US Relations and Regional Stability

Amman: Senate President Faisal Fayez Saturday welcomed US House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs member Joe Wilson to discuss ways to enhance Jordanian-US relations. They also tackled the situation in the region, including Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting, attended by Senator Suhair Al-Ali, Chair of the Jordan-US Parliamentary Friendship Committee, saw Fayez emphasize the deep-rooted Jordanian-US ties and the Kingdom’s keen interest to build on them in various fields and promote bilateral economic and investment partnerships. He praised the economic and financial aid from the US to Jordan, which has helped the country counter economic challenges due to regional conflicts and the hosting of about 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

Fayez highlighted Jordan’s role as a pivotal country in the region and a symbol of stability. He cautioned that any attempt to disrupt the Kingdom’s security would have serious repercussions for the entire region. He spoke about efforts by His Majesty King Abdullah II to stabilize the region, reach a ceasefire in Gaza, and allow humanitarian aid into the Strip. Fayez stated that regional stability is achievable only through the establishment of a Palestinian state, in line with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.

The Senate President urged the US administration to pressure Israel to halt aggression and agree to ceasefire proposals from mediators. He warned that Israel’s aggressive and expansionist policies would perpetuate the cycle of violence and undermine regional stability. Fayez condemned statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and far-right Israeli ministers regarding the “Greater Israel” vision, reiterating Jordan’s rejection of any resolution of the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan and its national principles.

Fayez reinforced His Majesty’s three “Nos”: “No to an alternative homeland, no to resettlement, and no to forced displacement.” He called Jordan’s custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem “a red line.” Fayez condemned Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, reiterating Jordan’s rejection of Israeli settlement expansion. He called on the US administration and the international community to support His Majesty’s efforts to create a political horizon toward a just solution to the Palestinian issue and an end to the spiral of violence in the region.

US Representative Joe Wilson commended the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Jordan, emphasizing the key role played by His Majesty King Abdullah II in ending conflicts in the Middle East.
