Fayez meets Hungary’s Franciscan leader over religious tourism cooperation

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Fayez, discussed with General President of Franciscan Friars in Hungary, Benedict, cooperation to increase the number of Hungarian religious tourists to Jordan.

According to a ministry statement issued Saturday, Fayez said Jordan is “one of the most important and prominent” religious tourism destinations in the world, due to its religious and civilizational diversity, and the values of tolerance and coexistence.

The minister also referred to Jordan’s Christian pilgrimage and archaeological attractions, which are “important” sites for Christian pilgrims and “key” religious and tourist destinations in the region.

Benedict, for his part, said his visit is the second to Jordan, which included many Christian pilgrimage sites in the Kingdom, adding that recommendations will be sent to Hungary’s tour operators to help attract more religious visitors to Jordan.

He stressed the continued cooperation and partnership with the Kingdom in the field of religious tourism, pointing out that Jordan “always provides security and safety to its visitors.”
