Epidemiological situation is “stable”, no need for lockdowns: Wahadneh

Adviser of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Medical Affairs, Brig. Gen. Adel Wahadneh said the epidemiological situation in Jordan is stable, but with caution.

“Although the rate of spread clearly indicates a noticeable hike (in Covid-19 infections) in recently, the same indicators show that the possibility of a wave affecting the health sector characterized by the number and quality of infections is unlikely, provided that there is an acceleration in the complete vaccination process and not betting on commitment. The rate also indicates that there are no justifications for extended or specific lockdowns,” Wahadneh said Monday in a statement.

He pointed out that the rate of demand for vaccinations is low despite their availability, which needs to re-examine the vaccination strategy and penalize everyone who does not accept vaccination according to Article 22 of the Public Health Law, noting that vaccines are available as the vaccination process inside and outside Jordan has proven its effectiveness and high safety, which does not justify avoid taking vaccinations.

“Continuing with this approach of relative stability drains the country’s energies, including health, economic and tourism sectors, and has a significant psychological impact and creates a hostile atmosphere towards any government action,” Wahadneh concluded.
