Energy Minister and ASEZA Collaborate on Natural Gas Initiatives in Aqaba

Aqaba: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, alongside the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), has been actively reviewing efforts to advance the Sheikh Sabah Port Natural Gas Development Project and its associated gasification facility. This initiative aims to ensure a steady supply of natural gas to the southern industrial zone in Aqaba.

According to Jordan News Agency, a meeting in Aqaba brought together ASEZA Chairman Nayef Fayez, Minister of Energy Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and the ministry’s technical team to explore strategies for strengthening cooperation on the multi-use liquids port. This port is integral to enhancing the sector’s efficiency and facilitating the implementation of natural gas projects in the southern region.

A joint statement from the meeting emphasized the significance of the National Water Carrier Project, urging for its swift completion. This project is deemed one of the Kingdom’s most crucial undertakings, as it plays a pivotal role in desalinating the Gulf of Aqaba waters and necessitates the development of technical solutions for water transport through its routes.

Discussions also highlighted the necessity of establishing facilities to cater to the current and future demands for imported petroleum derivatives and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This would not only lower industrial production costs through the use of natural gas but also bolster the competitiveness of Jordanian products on both domestic and international fronts. Additionally, the initiative is expected to positively impact job creation and facilitate the expansion of the export base to new markets and products.

The meeting, which aligns with the government’s strategy in partnership with ASEZA, aims to meet investor obligations and realize the Kingdom’s vision. With support from His Majesty King Abdullah II, the initiative seeks to supply major investment projects with liquefied natural gas across multiple sectors.
