Karak: A nine-year-old boy drowned, and his 25-year-old sister survived after they fell into a pool formed by rainwater in the Qatraneh area of Karak governorate, The Public Security Directorate (PSD) said on Saturday. The tragic incident has highlighted the dangers posed by rain-fed pools in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, the PSD spokesperson reported that the Civil Defence operations room in Karak received an emergency call about two individuals drowning in a rainwater-formed pool. Specialized rescue teams were dispatched to the location and successfully extracted both victims. Unfortunately, the boy was found deceased, while his sister survived the ordeal. Ambulance crews on the scene provided her with necessary first aid and transported her to the hospital for further care. The boy's body was taken to Karak Government Hospital for official procedures.
In response to the incident, the PSD has issued a warning to citizens, urging them to stay away from water pools and flowing water channels formed by rainwater. The agency emphasized the importance of parental supervision to prevent children from approaching potentially dangerous bodies of water and pools. The PSD's appeal aims to prevent similar tragedies and increase awareness about the risks associated with rain-fed water bodies.
