CAS Ruling Reshapes Jordan’s First Division Landscape

Amman: The Jordan Football Association has restructured its First Division standings following a landmark Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling that overturned Douqara FC’s relegation.

According to Jordan News Agency, the governing body announced that Douqara will retain their First Division status while Jerash FC drops to the Second Division. This decision resolves a dispute that had left the final standings in limbo since December.

“Following the JFA Board’s December 5, 2024 decision to postpone finalizing the First Division results pending CAS’s final ruling on Jerash FC’s complaint against Douqara, and in light of yesterday’s CAS verdict, the JFA announces that Douqara will remain in the First Division while Jerash returns to the Second Division,” the statement confirmed.

With standings now finalized, Al-Sarhan has been crowned First Division champions, earning promotion to the Jordan Pro League alongside runners-up Al-Baqaa. Meanwhile, Al-Karmel, Um Al-Quttein, Al-Jaleel, and Sahab have been relegated to the second tier.

The JFA emphasized its neutrality in the proceedings, stating it “consistently aims to apply regulations equally to all clubs without favoritism or leniency.”

“While the JFA respects the CAS ruling and affirms the right of all football stakeholders to pursue litigation through proper judicial channels, it reiterates its confidence in and support for the independence and impartiality of judicial committees,” the statement concluded.

“The JFA will not compromise on integrity-related issues, in compliance with FIFA regulations that mandate strict measures against all forms of match manipulation or illegal influence on football matches or competitions.”
