Board of Iftaa Sets Zakat-ul-Fitr at JD1.8 Per Person

Amman: The Board of Iftaa’, Research and Islamic Studies announced on Sunday that the amount of Zakat-ul-Fitr for this year has been set at JD1.80 per individual.

According to Jordan News Agency, a statement issued by the Iftaa Department indicated that it is permissible to give Zakat-ul-Fitr from the beginning of Ramadan. However, it is preferable to distribute it between sunset on the last day of Ramadan and the Eid prayer.

The board emphasized the importance of this religious duty and urged Muslims not to neglect it, as it serves as a form of purification for the fasting person. It also clarified that Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory even for children and individuals exempt from fasting, such as the sick or elderly.

Additionally, the board set the minimum Fidyah (ransom) for those permanently unable to fast due to illness or old age at JD1 per missed day, noting that giving more is meritorious.
