Mafraq: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has successfully dismantled an illegal operation involving the siphoning of drinking water via an 8-inch diameter main supply line to a factory in the central Mafraq governorate, near the Raba’a al-Sarhan camp on the Jaber Highway.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry, in collaboration with the Yarmouk Water Company and the Mafraq water directorate, conducted a raid that uncovered the illegal setup. During the operation, authorities seized a 1-inch diameter pipeline, measuring 4 meters in length, that was buried underground. This pipeline was used to continuously divert water, extracting approximately 120 cubic meters daily to supply the factory.
The ministry has started efforts to remove the illegal connection and is currently working on estimating the total volume of water that was illicitly siphoned over the last six months. They are also preparing legal reports to pursue action against those responsible for the violation.
In its statement, the ministry emphasized its ongoing commitment to safeguarding water resources and the sector’s assets across the country. It also called on citizens to report any suspected cases of water theft through their unified contact number, 117116.
