Tashkent: The Arab Parliament has called for the inclusion of Palestinian women in the proposed strategic task force on the Middle East within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which is set to replace the committee on Middle East affairs.
According to Jordan News Agency, during its participation at the IPU Forum for Women Parliamentarians in Uzbekistan, the Arab Parliament also demanded the immediate release of Palestinian women prisoners held in Israeli jails and the provision of all necessary assistance to them. It emphasized the need to address the needs of women in both Gaza and the West Bank.
In her address, Arab Parliament member Khadija Hajoubi condemned the Israeli occupation for institutionalizing gender-based violence against the Palestinian people. She stressed, “We are at a time when we urgently need to reaffirm the principles outlined in all international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian cause, especially in light of attempts to bypass these principles and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
Regarding the issue of “women’s participation in politics,” Hajoubi asserted that sustainable development within all societies cannot be achieved without the full inclusion of women in political spheres. She emphasized the necessity of ensuring comprehensive and fair representation of women’s issues and encouraging women to bring about real change within their communities.
