The Arab Parliament (AP) on Thursday started its meetings, chaired by its Speaker, Adel Al-Asoomi, and in the presence of the Lower House Speaker, Abdul Karim Doghmi, and the Senate President, Faisal Fayez.
Speaking at his opening speech, Doghmi thanked the AP for choosing Jordan’s House to hold its activities, adding that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership, will always seek Arab consensus, and sees in all forms of external interference, “a cause for loss, and a fuel for further division.”
Doghmi said Jordan has always put Palestine as its central issue, adding that the continued absence of a just solution for the issue is a “real” danger that threatens the entire region and feeds extremism.
Doghmi referred to Jordan’s stances over history to defend Palestine and offer sacrifices, voicing rejection to compromising over Jerusalem.
On the Arab arena, Doghmi called for restoring Syria’s pan- Arab role, extending support for the unity of Iraq and Syria and the stability of Lebanon, Yemen and Libya, and rejection of all forms of interference in their affairs.
Doghmi stressed the importance of parliamentary pressure on governments to begin opening the doors of possible and available cooperation towards achieving economic integration.
This effort should also focus on discussing all forms of collective action and harnessing all efforts to face Covid-19 economic effects on all Arab countries, he noted.
