Arab league: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has strongly condemned Israel's "brutal aggression" against Lebanon, highlighting the incursions and ongoing destruction of villages and archaeological sites, along with the targeting and displacement of civilians.
According to Jordan News Agency, Aboul Gheit described the attacks as "a blatant violation" of Lebanon's sovereignty and a serious infringement of both international law and international humanitarian law. He has called for an immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression, emphasizing the serious threat it poses to regional security and stability. Furthermore, he urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility by obliging Israel to cease fire and fully implement Resolution 1701.
The Secretary-General reiterated the Arab League's solidarity with Lebanon and its citizens, expressing support for the Lebanese state in dealing with the consequences of the aggression. He also affirmed the league's backing of all measures undertaken by the Lebanese government to restore security and stability and to extend state sovereignty over its entire territory.
Aboul Gheit demanded that the Security Council work towards an immediate ceasefire and facilitate a complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, as well as ensuring that displaced individuals can return to their homes.
