Kuwait city: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Monday strongly condemned Iranian attacks on electricity and water desalination facilities in Kuwait. “Any Iranian military aggression against any Arab state, in any form or scale, is unacceptable and categorically condemned,” Aboul Gheit reiterated in a statement.
According to Jordan News Agency, Aboul Gheit stated that Iran’s targeting of vital civilian infrastructure, such as water networks, energy and electricity facilities, transport hubs, and residential areas, and terrorizing civilians, is a flagrant violation of international law and its established principles. He emphasized that such acts constitute a full-fledged war crime under international humanitarian law, for which the Iranian regime will bear the full consequences, including compensation for damage.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesperson of the Arab League Secretary-General, reiterated the need for Iran to immediately and fully comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and cease its brutal attacks on Arab states.
Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi also expressed strong condemnation of the blatant Iranian missile and drone attacks on a camp in Kuwait that injured 10 members of the armed forces, as well as attacks on power and desalination plants. He wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Al-Yamahi further highlighted that Iran’s continued hostility towards Arab states is a flagrant violation of all international humanitarian law conventions and the principles of the UN Charter, pushing the region towards chaos and further insecurity and instability. He called on the international community to take a firm stance to stop Iranian violations against Arab states.
He reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s solidarity with Kuwait and other Arab states targeted by Iran, supporting all measures they take to protect their security and stability and safeguard their territories and sovereignty.
