Aqaba:Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nedal Al-Ouran, recognized the efforts of marine environmental protection clubs for the 2025/2026 academic year at the Aqaba Marine Reserve Visitor Center.
According to Jordan News Agency, these clubs were organized by the reserve in collaboration with the Aqaba Directorate of Education, involving 18 schools, approximately 600 students, and 36 supervisors. Al-Ouran emphasized the importance of raising students' awareness about marine conservation, highlighting the significance of collaboration with the education sector to cultivate a generation conscious of natural resources in the Gulf of Aqaba.
The program aims to foster environmental awareness by engaging students and supervisors in ongoing activities. It provides resources for schools to initiate environmental projects tailored to their specific needs and surroundings. Aqaba Marine Reserve Director, Nasser Al-Zawaideh, noted that the initiative empowers school clubs with the necessary knowledge and tools to conduct continuous environmental activities.
Training was provided to 36 supervisors, alongside educational and interactive materials to support the clubs' efforts throughout the year. Evaluation results indicated that 17 clubs implemented at least five activities, while six clubs conducted more than 15 activities, with 63 instances of participation or engagement via social media.
The program featured lectures, educational games, competitions, environmental exhibitions, and recycling activities. It also included school radio broadcasts, visits to the reserve, and participation in environmental occasions, using the "Because It Is Our Sea" platform for awareness content.
Feedback from supervisors showed high approval for the program, with all 18 supervisors rating the reserve's role and coordination as excellent. Most supervisors recognized the strong environmental impact and high interaction levels with the reserve.
Additionally, the reserve prepared 30 proposed environmental radio messages to enhance students' abilities in spreading environmental awareness. The ceremony concluded with a presentation of the program's achievements and the honoring of participating schools and supervisors.
