Ministry of Labour to Implement New Directives on Disability Employment and Workplace Safety

Amman:Minister of Transport and Minister of Labour Nidal Qatamin has instructed the Ministry's Employment and Inspection Directorates, along with the National Employment Programme team, to ensure that private-sector establishments adhere to Labor Law provisions. These provisions focus on employing persons with disabilities, providing occupational health and safety personnel, and establishing nurseries for employees' children with qualified staff.

According to Jordan News Agency, the directives are part of efforts to enhance employment opportunities for Jordanians in the private sector and ensure compliance with the Labor Law, the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and legislation governing occupational health and safety.

The Ministry has disseminated these directives to the Employment and Inspection Directorates and their field departments, as well as the National Employment Program, to oversee adherence to legally prescribed employment quotas for persons with disabilities, occupational health and safety standards, and nursery requirements for employees' children.

Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud noted that employment teams have commenced field visits to establishments subject to these requirements. The visits aim to raise employers' awareness of their legal obligations and identify available job opportunities.

The awareness campaign is set to last 30 days, during which employers will be encouraged to utilize the database available through the national employment platform, Sajjil (https//sajjil.gov.jo). This platform will assist in recruiting graduates in specializations with limited employment prospects for positions related to nurseries or roles in occupational health and safety, depending on their qualifications.

The Ministry has urged persons with disabilities, occupational health and safety specialists, and individuals with qualifications relevant to nursery operations to update their information or register on the Sajjil platform. This will allow the Ministry to assess their qualifications, identify suitable job opportunities, and refer those needing further training to qualification programmes coordinated with the Vocational Training Corporation.

Zyoud also mentioned that the Ministry would support establishments complying with Labor Law requirements through the National Employment Programme, provided they meet the program's eligibility criteria. After the 30-day awareness period concludes, the Ministry plans to launch expanded inspection campaigns and take legal action against establishments that do not comply with Labour Law provisions.
