Amman:The President of the General Union of Jordanian Olive Presses and Olive Producers, Muhammad Al-Najdawi, has affirmed the high quality and esteemed reputation of Jordanian olive oil both locally and internationally. He emphasized that the sector adheres to strict technical, health, and regulatory standards to ensure production safety and preserve the oil's natural properties.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Najdawi highlighted the significance of Jordanian olive oil as a key national agricultural product, attributing its quality to favorable growing environments and the expertise of local farmers and press operators. The oil benefits from integrated natural and technical factors such as soil characteristics, climatic conditions, fruit maturity, harvest timing, and effective pressing and storage practices.
Al-Najdawi stated that all olive presses in Jordan are prepared to process this season's crop, following inspections by the syndicate's quality control engineer. These inspections ensure compliance with health, occupational, and environmental safety standards. He noted that approximately 99 percent of Jordanian olive presses use modern technology to enhance production efficiency and competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
In recent years, significant infrastructure and technical upgrades have been made in the sector, aligning with Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization specifications. The association works closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant regulatory bodies to monitor market quality and address any improper practices that may affect product integrity or consumer trust.
Preliminary estimates for the 2026/2027 season indicate a production of around 30,000 tons of olive oil, expected to meet domestic demand and support national food security. The pressing season, which began in mid-October, involves strict adherence to proper agricultural practices to maintain quality.
Jordanian olive oil has gained recognition in international competitions, reflecting its compliance with global quality standards. Al-Najdawi advised consumers to purchase olive oil from authorized presses and trusted suppliers, cautioning against misleading advertisements on social media. He reiterated the importance of consumer protection and product reputation as a collective responsibility among regulators, producers, and consumers.
