Amman:Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to significantly transform various sectors in Jordan, offering the country a chance to leverage these technologies to enhance its human capital and develop scalable solutions for regional and global markets.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Firas Al-Hanandeh, President of Ajloun National University and Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Center at the Association of Arab Universities, emphasized Jordan's strong foundation in education and technological expertise. This foundation positions the nation to build an innovation-driven economy by investing in its people and knowledge.
Dr. Al-Hanandeh identified sectors such as water, agriculture, energy, transport, healthcare, education, and public services as potential laboratories for innovation. These areas could foster the creation of startups, generate high-quality jobs, and produce digital services that reach beyond local markets.
Furthermore, Dr. Khaled Al-Omari from Ajloun National University highlighted AI's potential to enhance financial services and decision-making efficiency, especially with the increasing volume of data from digital transactions.
In the media industry, Dr. Uday Qaqish pointed out AI's impact on content production and distribution, necessitating new skills for media professionals. Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah Al-Dardour from Jadara University stressed the need for a legal framework to address data privacy and liability issues associated with AI.
Legal researcher Dr. Salem Al-Jbour underscored the importance of governance in ensuring AI's safe and responsible use, advocating for clear standards in data management and accountability.
Journalist Dr. Jamal Al-Bawareed noted the ethical considerations that arise as AI technology advances, particularly its ability to produce content indistinguishable from authentic material.
The experts collectively agreed on the necessity of a robust national AI ecosystem, achieved through collaboration among universities, research bodies, and economic sectors, supported by reliable infrastructure and funding.
