Amman:The National Export Strategy for 2026-2029, recently approved by Jordan's Cabinet, aims to enhance the presence of Jordanian products in global markets, expand the number of exporting companies, and diversify both products and destinations. This initiative is expected to boost the economic contribution of exports, according to Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qudah emphasized that the strategy is part of a broader effort to develop Jordan's productive sectors, aligning with the Economic Modernization Vision. It provides a framework for coordinating national efforts, setting export priorities based on market demands, and adapting to global trade changes.
The strategy targets a 5 percent annual export growth, with plans to increase manufactured exports from JD4.7 billion to JD7.9 billion by 2029. It also aims to expand service exports and enhance the locally generated value.
The next phase will focus on sectors with high export potential by improving quality and productivity, promoting innovation, and leveraging trade agreements. The strategy will strengthen companies' capabilities to engage with international markets through tools like e-commerce and the digital economy.
Qudah highlighted the importance of involving more companies, especially SMEs, in the export sector. This will be facilitated by providing market intelligence, supporting promotional activities, and fostering connections with international buyers to help businesses compete globally.
Implementation of the strategy will occur through sector-specific action plans from 2026 to 2029, detailing programs, projects, responsibilities, and financing needs. An interim review in 2027 and an impact assessment in 2029 will monitor progress and adjust priorities as needed.
The strategy prioritizes sectors such as apparel, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fertilizers, engineering products, and food, while also promoting services exports in IT, management and engineering consulting, and creative industries.
SMEs will receive particular focus, with initiatives to help them meet international standards, access market intelligence, and connect with potential buyers. This aims to facilitate their transition from domestic to international markets.
The strategy will leverage Jordan's trade agreements and digital economy tools, including e-commerce and artificial intelligence, to enable Jordanian businesses to access new customers and markets globally.
