Social Security Initiative Concludes in Jordan, Aiding Vulnerable Groups

Amman:The Social Security Corporation (SSC), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), has concluded the "Social Security Bridges" initiative. This project focused on enhancing awareness and access to social security in Jordan as part of the "Prospects" project, which receives funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The initiative aimed to increase awareness of social security inclusion and introduce insurance benefits to workers, particularly those in vulnerable groups with limited access to such services.

According to Jordan News Agency, the closing workshop involved SSC representatives and ARDD lawyers discussing their experiences with awareness sessions and addressing legal inquiries. The discussions underscored the necessity for flexible outreach tools tailored to different community segments.

Dalia Rocky, the Prospects Project Manager for the ILO in Jordan, highlighted the importance of social security as a foundation for decent work and comprehensive social protection. She stressed the need to ensure that marginalized groups, including refugees and informal economy workers, have access to information and services to exercise their rights.

Susan Muhareb, ARDD's Deputy Director, stated that the initiative succeeded in bringing social security systems closer to vulnerable communities. Through capacity building, legal support, and grassroots field operations, over 900 individuals from various nationalities, including women, youth, refugees, migrants, and informal workers, benefited from the awareness sessions.

The field activities were conducted through four specialized support units in Ramtha, Mafraq, Russeifa, and South Amman, in partnership with local civil society organizations. The event concluded with discussions on expanding the project's impact and enhancing inclusive social protection frameworks throughout the Kingdom.
