Jordan and Yemen Foreign Ministers Discuss Cooperation and Regional Stability

Amman:The Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, met with Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Afrah Zouba, on Sunday to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation.

According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting in Amman, Zouba delivered a letter from Rashad Al Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. The ministers agreed to revive political consultations between their foreign ministries as per a 2022 memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing coordination and cooperation.

The discussions included preparations for the 15th session of the Jordanian-Yemeni Joint Higher Committee. Safadi expressed Jordan's unwavering support for Yemen's legitimate leadership in its efforts to restore security and uphold sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also emphasized Jordan's solidarity with the Yemeni government against Houthi militia attacks and condemned the Houthi assaults on Saudi Arabia, affirming Jordan support for Saudi Arabia's security measures.

Both ministers underscored the importance of respecting navigation freedom in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Zouba praised Jordan's continuous support for Yemen and reiterated Yemen commitment to strengthening ties with Jordan.

They also addressed regional developments and coordination, supporting efforts to reduce tensions and achieve lasting peace. The ministers called for a comprehensive resolution to ensure security and stability, address underlying tensions, and respect state sovereignty and good-neighborliness, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The ministers agreed to continue communication and consultations to further strengthen their bilateral relations and tackle regional and international issues of common interest.
