Balqa: Balqa Governorate is currently witnessing implementation of a package of projects, aimed at developing public transport services and improving infrastructure efficiency. Overhaul of King Hussein Bridge (KHB) facilities and expansion of the regular public transport project top the list, all aimed to enhance quality of services provided to citizens and travelers.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ala'a Aghawat, Director of Balqa Transport Directorate, said the KHB's development operations are part of upgrading land transport facilities, in accordance with the best practices in border crossing management, providing "more efficient" services for travelers, at a cost of JD2.5 million. Aghawat added that the project features construction of an administrative and service building with air-conditioned waiting spaces, amenities for drivers and passengers, and modern parking areas with charging points for electric vehicles, and an integrated system for regulating entry and exit, which would enhance traffic flow.
Additionally, he stated Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) has awarded the tender for the project to develop the public transport parking area for vehicles operating on the Amman-King Hussein Bridge route. Under the project, he said 78 new parking spaces will be built, as well as construction of administrative offices and shops. He anticipates the project will be completed within a year, which would improve service levels and achieve better traffic flow.
