Jordan Approves First Radiation Oncology Residency Program

Amman: The Jordan Medical Council has approved the establishment of a higher specialty program in radiation oncology at the Saudi Center for Radiotherapy at King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH). This marks the first accredited program of its kind in Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, KAUH Director-General Hassan Balas emphasized that this accreditation is a significant step towards advancing specialized medical education and radiation oncology services in Jordan. The program has been developed in cooperation with Jordan University of Science and Technology and aligns with international training standards. Balas expressed gratitude to the medical, academic, and administrative teams for their efforts and highlighted that the program will provide residents with advanced training on the latest treatment technologies.

Laith Samhouri, director of KAUH's radiation oncology center and head of the program, stated that the initiative will help qualify national specialists in radiation oncology within Jordan while integrating expertise from leading international centers. He stressed that the success of the program relies on the collaborative efforts of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, nurses, and radiation safety officers to provide safe and advanced care in accordance with global best practices.
