Amman: The Senate's Jordanian-Cypriot Friendship Committee met on Tuesday with Cyprus' Ambassador to Jordan Sevag Avedissian to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
According to Jordan News Agency, Committee Chairman Senator Issa Ayoub highlighted that Jordanian-Cypriot relations are built on mutual respect, noting progress in economic, parliamentary, cultural, and educational cooperation. Ayoub acknowledged Cyprus' support for Jordan's stance on the Palestinian issue and the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Ayoub emphasized the need to expand cooperation in economic, cultural, educational, trade, and tourist fields, pointing out Jordan's tourism assets, especially in religious and medical tourism.
In response, Avedissian expressed Cyprus' intent to further develop relations with Jordan, praising the strategic partnership between the two countries, particularly in parliamentary, educational, economic, and cultural areas. He also noted Cyprus' role as chair of the Council of the European Union in supporting the strengthening of the Jordan-EU partnership.
Members of the committee, including Ali Ayed, Yahya Kasbi, Haifa Najjar, George Hazboun, Zuhair Abu Fares, and others, emphasized the importance of maintaining communication, meetings, and reciprocal visits to sustain the Jordan-Cyprus relationship.
